21

This is what 21 miles on the treadmill looks like. Kind of. I stopped to help Macie in the bathroom and get Charlotte out of her crib, but you don't see those fluxuations in my speed. I also stopped every 4 and walked a few seconds while I had water. After 16 I stopped every mile. You'd think that would show up. This will be my longest run before the marathon. Hopefully adrenaline takes me the final five? AND hopefully Salt Lake is a controlled 68 degrees with no wind. I am scouting out the course this weekend. This run gives me some hope. I didn't get any blisters. My right calf got all wierd and painfull for the last six miles, if that doesn't happen again it would really help me out. I was most surprised that my Nike+ was only off by a quarter of a mile - lately it hasn't been that accurate. I'd like to give a shout out to The Secret Life of Bees and Oprah's riveting interviews with the girls from the Yearning for Zion Ranch. Thanks for making this possible.

SLC and Jazz Game

We meet up with Trent and Kylie in SLC yesterday. I got tickets to the Jazz v. Phoenix game for my Birthday and Alison wasn't all that enthused about seeing Shaq, so she and Kylie went and saw "Monsters vs. Aliens" while Trent and I used the tickets. We got together with Jeff Miles's family for a pregame meal at Jason's Deli.

Our seats were on the 22nd row of the upper bowl. The last row of fixed seating is the 21st. There were some (padded!) folding chairs set up for us above the permanents seats. We soon noticed a pair of doors that lead to Club Level seating, including a buffet. We wandered around back there a bit and rode an elevator with a bell hop. Later, by myself, I went to use the elevator to find a bathroom. The bell hop asked where I was headed and I just said "the first floor with a bathroom" he responded "well, shoot, there are bathrooms up here, where are you seats?" I said "uhhh" and motioned with my arm toward the dark hallway I came through. "Oh. Yeah. I can't let you stay up here," he replied and punched a lower level button.
We also were visited by a boy who claimed to be married to one of the Jazz dancers. He introduced himself by asking "did you guys pay for these seats?"

Phoenix came back from 21 down to lose in overtime. Had they made 1 of the 20 lay-ups they missed, or been able to inbound the ball succesfully with 25 seconds left in regulation, they would have won. I saw Clay Murdoch, I'm almost positive. I wasn't able to get his attention, though.

A Spring Break Miracle!

This week is APS spring break, all the kids are out of school. Adri decided we needed to take a day and spend it with the family. So, Wednesday morning we all got up drove down the street and hoped on the train up to Santa Fe. Apparently usually there's plenty of room on the train, but because of spring break it was packed. Adri and the girls squeeze into the aisle and I take the boys and stand by the door. As we get settled in I hear Adri say, "Buffy?". Lo and behold, Adri is standing right next to Buffy! It was really surreal. Apparently she'd flown up with her brother and sister to see her mother in Santa Fe. It turned out to be the highlight of our trip. They got to spend nearly the entire 1 hour trip talking. When we got to Santa Fe they went there separate ways.
We started walking and ran into some guy who made balloon animals for the kids and directed us to a restaurant called "The Cowgirl" for lunch. It was pretty nice, with a play area for the kids. For us things went downhill pretty fast after that. We walked down to the plaza, looking at the art and trinkets on sale all around. We made it to a large cathedral and looked around. By this time Michael had lost it. It was all, "I don't want to be in Santa Fe!", "This is the worst day ever!", and, my personal favorite, he would chase after and try to kick pigeons and yell, "Get out of here!" At the church he threw his balloon sword and yelled, "I don't want this anymore!" Unfortunately, the train didn't leave to go back to ABQ until 4, so we were stuck till then. Finally the time rolled around and we headed home. The trip back was pretty good. We still had no seats, but the kids sat on the floor and played some of the travel games they had.
We finally made it home around 6:30. As we drove back Michael was crying because he'd 'lost' his balloon sword. Adri and I decided we would start using Santa Fe as a threat. In other words, "If you don't behave we'll go back to Santa Fe tomorrow!". Then, as we ate dinner, Michael pops up, "When can we go back to Santa Fe and get some more balloons, that was great!" Adri about passed out, and I wanted to throw up.

So, you did it!

Those were the words of our nurse when we went in for the ultrasound.




The second one is a front, face on view. The head is on the bottom. You can kind of see each of the arms and each of the legs if you look really close. It was easier live because it kept wiggling a little bit. I think we royally annoyed it.

The first one shows the heart beat, 164 BPM. Nice.

It's still early, Kylie is barely over 10 weeks. The doctor told us that with the sturdy heartbeat and the development we could see from the ultrasound that we were okay to start spreading the word. We hope it continues to go well!

Home Base on Google Maps

Google has a project where they drive up and down every street in America with a crazy camera mounted on a van. Then they put the images on a map and you can look at all the streets. Sometimes, they get pictures of people doing wierd things. The Madsen Home doesn't have anything too exciting, but it does have Morgan's Friend's car dying in the drive way, and an orange construction pylon by the boat. Click Here To See. Grandma's cast is off! She has a little velcro splint she can wear if she wants to, but it healed well and needs a litlle excercise.

I didn't take pics of the doc pulling the pins out with pliers, I should have. It didn't hurt at all, pretty cool.

The Church's Comments Regarding Depictions of Temple Worship on TV

If you hadn't heard, HBO plans on airing an episode of Big Love which will include depictions of Temple Worship. 

Nothing new, I'd say. "Haters" (and, maybe less offensively, academia) have been talking about, reproducing, mocking, filming, and generally exposing temple worship since Joeseph Smith. If you link ancient temple worship to modern, then even longer. The Church's sentiments are here.
