Many times over the last 12 years I've been asked, what was it like in India? To which I've never really had a good answer. Well, yesterday I may have finally come up with a way for people to understand. I was watching some PBS show about a photographer who was at
Varanasi in India. I'd actually been through there once, and remembered what it was like. He was down by the river,
romanticizing India to the hilt, like all the programs I've seen tend to do. He talked about how the river was sacred, how it was used to cleanse away sins, renew people's karma, clean their clothes, and was a place for 'last rites'. The last rites he was
referring to are when people dump either ashes or complete dead bodies into the river. Somehow he didn't have any visuals of this. So, I was watching and thinking yet again, this really doesn't convey what it's like. It looks so clean and mystical on TV. Then
Adri brought in Alexander with an explosive diaper incident to change him. Let me tell you, aromas can really bring back memories. Suddenly I was back in India all over again. It felt just like it did when I was there. So, if you really want to know what it's like in India, watch pretty much any documentary of the land, but be sure to have a stinky soiled diaper to hold under your nose while you do so.
