What are the odds?

I think that most of our blog-readers probably already were aware that we were considering a job offer in Vegas. For anyone who didn't know, we were considering a job in Vegas, but are no longer. We already accepted it.

So, sometime in August of 2009, we will make the 5 hour car drive south to the hot, hot, mountain-deserts of Sin City. We hope you will all consider visiting us. I'm sure we will have some incentive package to lure you to the sands. Maybe we will pay for your golf passes (in December, if you wish), or a ride on the Stratosphere coasters, or take you to one of the four Brazilian Churrascorias. We will think of something to make it worth your time!

Not having ever lived in Hot Vegas, but knowing a good number of friends and family who have/do, we asked around a bit. Mostly, people describe it as a hot place with nice neighborhoods and tend to think of "Tourist Vegas" like someone in San Diego would think of Disney Land. It's there, it is a big part of the economy, but it is also pretty ignorable if you don't happen to work there. I did get feedback from people who left because they didn't like it; it mostly came down to the heat. I guess we will find out!

My job will be in the Summerlin area, west of Las Vegas itself. Lots of people recomended Henderson (south of Vegas) to us, but it would be a pretty long commute. From what we gather, Summerlin is a nice place to live, as long as you can afford it. And - unless either of the two major candidates manages to 'save' the housing market (ugh) - it looks like we would be able to live there. Here's to a continuing "crisis!"
We went to a Danish restaurant, then had danishes this morning at breakfast, too. It was nice. Both kids were very well behaved.

Belly Badges

Kade and Ty are being Mario and Luigi for Halloween - these are the hats I made for them.  They love them and they were so cheap and easy to make that I made a couple for the neighbor boys so they could all play mario and luigi together.
Kade and Ty were playing over at the neighbors house and came home with no shirts and marker drawn all over their bellies.  When I asked them what was all over their stomachs Kade said, "It's a belly badge!" like I was crazy for not knowing that.   I still wasn't sure what he meant and then he told me that they were pretending to be care bears and needed belly badges so they drew their own belly badges with markers on their stomachs.

Disneyland Post

I posted a bunch of pictures from our Disneyland trip if anyone is interested is looking - it is too long and too many pictures to post over here.

New Running Challenge

I started a new running challenge per Val's request. Most miles by the end of the year. It's invitation only so if you didn't already get an email invite send me your email address and I'll add you. It starts Monday so sign up soon.

In other news, we finally had family pictures taken today. They gave us a CD with every picture they took and these are some of our favorites.

Apple Pick'n

We went and picked apples last night at a small family-owned orchard near Ririe. They sell yummy Honey Crisp apples for just $5 per bushel if you pick them. We had a great time. The family was making apple juice in the backyard and they let us have a taste - it was delicious. The dad joked that all his neighbors call it the 'Nectar of the Gods'.

Homecoming, Controversy.

We lured Pat, Dale, Trent, and Morgan down to Provo for the homecomming Fball game vs. UNM.  I think a good time was had by all.  No pictures to confirm it, so you will just have to believe us.  It did NOT snow and rain during the game, despite the forecast.  We heard a rousing story by Aunt Susan about Uncle John haveing a stroke.

Despite winnint 21-3, the headlines in the SL Trib were about the controversial call mid way in the 4th quarter.  For your review:

Riley and Macie wanted to showoff the pumpkins they grew and decorated. These pictures were taken this morning right before it started to snow. We're currently under a Winter Storm Warning. In other news, Macie is now fully potty trained -Hurray!

think I got it backwards

they're both angels . . .

Of course, Ezri couldn't wait to try on her costume . . . She then pulled out a basket of ribbons and started to direct me on how to add them. "on shirt, around, like birds for princess..."
(we've seen Enchanted 4 times, I think birds tie a bow around Giselle no less than 3 times before the show is over) And Zain, well, I couldn't resist . . .
I'll post more pictures on the Knundrum.
We can't wait for Halloween!

I went to Albuquerque!

Got to have dinner with Adri and Jared and there several children.  Also got a great view of a "Mass Ascension."  Firm seemed like great place and great people, great place. Albuquerque was a nice place, too. But I did hear a few things from a few sources that made me raise an eyebrow.

At least three people told me they have bad schools.  Two people told me the crime rate was really high.  Also, they are having an outbreak of the Plague.  I'm not making that up. The Bubonic Plague was the lead story on the evening news.

They said they would get back to me in about three weeks, so I guess I won't worry about making and decisions regarding a job till at least then!
